| | Five big-budget, Technicolor westerns featuring many of the finest actors and directors the genre has ever known are coming to DVD for the first time in an unprecedented collection from Turner Classic Movies (TCM) and Universal Studios Home Entertainment. The five-disc Western Horizons: Universal Westerns of the 1950s features the films Horizons West (1952), Saskatchewan (1954), Dawn at Socorro (1954), Backlash (1956) and Pillars of the Sky (1956). TCM and Universal's Western Horizons: Universal Westerns of the 1950s collection will be available on Feb. 18, 2013, exclusively through TCM’s online store at http://shop.tcm.com, which is currently accepting pre-orders. In addition to the five films, the set features extensive onscreen bonus materials, including an introduction by TCM host Robert Osborne, British front-of-house photos, scene stills, publicity photos, movie posters and more.

|Horizons West (1952) – Budd Boetticher directed this post-Civil War western starring Robert Ryan and Rock Hudson as Texas brothers on opposite sides of the law. Julia Adams, James Arness, John McIntire and Dennis Weaver co-star. |
Saskatchewan (1954) – In this Canadian-set tale from director Raoul Walsh, Alan Ladd and Jay Silverheels find the courage to revolt against a fort commander in order to protect border settlers. Shelley Winters and J. Carrol Naish co-star.
Dawn at Socorro (1954) – George Sherman directed this take on the story of the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, featuring Rory Calhoun as a gambler and gunslinger who attempts to reform himself and saloon girl Piper Laurie.
Backlash (1956) – Richard Widmark sets out to get revenge on the men who killed his father while fellow traveler Donna Reed complicates his journey in this gripping western from John Sturges.
Pillars of the Sky (1956) – Jeff Chandler is an Army officer facing off with Apache chieftain Kamiakin (Michael Ansara) in this portrait of racial tensions between Native Americans and white settlers in Oregon Country, co-starring Dorothy Malone, Ward Bond and Lee Marvin.
